Text Box: There are 17 library service points open to the public, and 2 mobile libraries on the mainland and one on Arran. A Local and Family History Centre is based at the Vennel in Irvine and a Home Library Service is also available. Libraries are located in: Ardrossan, Arran, Beith, Bourtreehill, Dalry,  Dreghorn, Fairlie, Irvine, Kilbirnie, Kilwinning, Largs, Millport, Saltcoats, Springside, Skelmorlie, Stevenston, and West Kilbride. To join, go to your local library with 2 proofs  of identity (one including your name and address) where you will be given a membership card which can be used in any of our libraries. Anyone living, working or studying in North Ayrshire can use the library and information service. The 17 libraries stretch from Irvine in the South to Skelmorlie in the North, Beith in the East and the Island of Arran in the West. Each library lends books for adults and children with a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction in hardback, paperback, large print and on tape/CD. The majority of libraries also lend, compact discs, videos, DVDs and language tapes. Irvine, Kilwinning, Largs & Saltcoats libraries also lend Playstation Games. All libraries have computer facilities with free Internet access and most also have photocopying and fax facilities. All libraries have a dedicated children's area with books for all ages as well as stories on CD, Count Me in and Parental collections. During the school holidays some libraries will host a programme of events. Check our What's On pages for more information. Regular school and playgroup visits and author visits are arranged on a formal and adhoc basis. Local books, maps and postcards are available to buy in many libraries as well as local exhibitions, book sales and  author visits. This year is the National Year of Reading and many libraries will have additional activities for adults.
