What kind of books do you like?
| Adventure |
| Adventure stories contain drama, action and suspense. Rip-roaring tales that will transport you to imaginary lands where anything can happen! |
| Animals |
| Fabulous felines and ruthless reptiles. If crawling through a book with a furry friend is your thing, check out one of the many animal stories available. |
|
Family |
| Brother, sister – friend or foe? Love them or loathe them, we can’t escape them. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, family stories deal with the whole range of relationships we have with our siblings, parents and extended family. |
| Fantasy |
| In fantasyland the rules are that there are no rules! From talking animals to flying carpets, in a magical world where the laws of science do not apply, anything can exist. |
| Friends |
| Sometimes we are closer to our friends than our family.Read all about best friends growing up together, falling out and making up, and how our friends can sometimes have the biggest influence on our behaviour and the choices we make. |
| Ghosts |
| Watch out for spooky spectres and things that go bump in the night within these stories. Some ghosts may be friendly, but look out for the not-so-nice visitors from the other dimension. Always read with the light on and not just before bed unless you are really brave! |
| Historical |
| Historical novels are set in the past. Often the setting will be a real event that occurred but the main characters are fictitious. Sometimes the story will be about a real person, and the author has used diaries and other written sources to base their story on. |
| Horror |
| Spine-chillers designed to scare the reader. Expect lots of dead bodies, horrifying creatures and blood-curdling moments to make your hair stand on end. Truly terrifying and not for the faint-hearted. |
| Humour |
|
Funny stories guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. Ridiculous characters and silly story lines will lighten your mood and offer great escapism. Within the pages of a comedy there will be gags and hilarious situations that you will remember long after you have finished the book. |
| Mystery |
| Designed to keep the reader in suspense, a mystery will include an unsolved crime or a mysterious event that will not be explained until the end of the story. Be prepared for some edge-of-the-seat drama that will keep you gripped until all is revealed. |
| Romance |
| Boy meets girl; they fall in love and live happily ever after. That’s the theory, but true to life the path of true love almost never runs smoothly in the world of the romance novel. |
| School |
|
Always eventful and never boring, the one thing these stories have in common is the main action is set in a school. Apart from that, absolutely anything can happen – and usually does! |
|
Science Fiction |
| Stories that are set in the future and can sometimes be the author’s perception of what life may be like in the years to come. They feature futuristic technology and try to show how the human race may have advanced in its knowledge of science. May also include life on other planets and inter-galactic story lines. |
| Sport |
| From boxing rings to swimming pools, the whole range of sporting prowess is covered in this genre. Take part in an imaginary football game and feel the tension on the pitch as you follow the score from the comfort of you armchair. |
|
War |
| War novels can be based on real events in the past or imaginary battles. Often harrowing, they are stories that include characters of great courage and bravery, as well as highlighting the darker side of human nature. They may be sad to read, but can be very historically informative and show how people pull together in times of trouble. |
