Last summer some children visited
Largs library for a week to meet the poet Gerry Cambridge. The aim of
their week was to find out about writing poetry using their local
surroundings as inspiration. They visited local rivers, seashore and
other places in North Ayrshire. Please take a look at some of
their poems below.
The Sea’s 4 wishes
My first wish would be that all the kids could play with me.
The second would be that if anyone threw a stone at me
I could throw it at them with a perfect aim.
hen I would wish for my own fish army to annoy all adults.
My final wish would be that children ruled the earth.

My Week
On Monday I had a rest.
Not going out, just doing nothing.
On Tuesday we went out.
Down to the beach to look at rockpools.
On Wednesday we stayed in.
We wrote a poem.
On Thursday we went out again.
We saw prawns, anemones and jellyfish.
On Friday I wrote this poem!
On Saturday I had a rest.
And the last day of the week
I went on holiday.
