At our last meeting, we discussed The Innocent's Story by Nicky Singer.  Cassina is a thirteen year old girl who along with her sister is killed in a train station by a suicide bomber. However a strange thing happened. Both Cassina and the bomber did not die. Cassina took the form of a para-spirit, able to live in the minds of the living and see their innermost thoughts. She eventually finds herself in the mind of her killer and starts to question and challenge her beliefs and preconceptions. The author gives a voice not only to Cassina, a murdered civilian but also Akim, the suicide bomber.

We all agreed that it was a good book and certainly one we would recommend to our friends.

Singer, Nicky The Innocent's Story
Characters Cassina Dixon and Akim Watabi

What kind of book is it?
What happens in story Cassina is blown up in a bomb attack when picking up her little sister from school.Cassina dosen't die though, she becomes a para-spirit,a ball of mist, who can go in and out of peoples minds, but cannot inter-fear.It becomes frustrating for Cassina when she finds herself in the mind of the 'suicide bomber' who murdered her.She find's out the attack which they are planning and she tries, hard,to stop it.She goes with him,in his mind, to the destination of the next attack,in the mall, she manages to stop the bomb by going into a child's mind, which is strictly against the para-spirit rules. When she does this, she finds herself returning back to human form and 100% alive. The would-be suicide bomber (Akim)dies though.
Favourite Part of the Story My favourite part of the story was when Cassinna knows what the suicide bombers are planning but can't stop them and it is really frustrating her.
Was the Ending What You Expected The ending was not very realistic and things chopped and changed all the time.It was really hard to understand so no,it wasn't what i expected.
Book was fine ****    Lisa, Irvine Library
